Dear valued members of Study Association Stress,
As our introduction drink has now passed, the 52nd candidate board would like to provide you with a written introduction of each candidate board member for those who could not attend the drink in person, or who simply like to get to know us better.
Kind regards,
The 52nd Candidate Board of Study Association Stress

Chair: Jurre Spruijt
Hey, all! My name is Jurre Spruijt and I am 21 years old. I was raised in the lovely town called Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht (yes, really), which is located in South-Holland. After high school, I moved to Enschede to start the Bachelor Industrial Engineering and Management, which I am now finalising by writing a thesis.
During the Kick-In I was part of the Toeter do-group, where everyone was encouraged to get active and do committees for Stress. I was enthusiastic about the idea, so in my first year I started by joining the External Affairs Committee. I liked the contact with companies, hence, at the end of the first year I became part of the Stress Congress Committee in the role of External Affairs. In my second year I became more active through bartending and being part of the working-group for the networking drink (you might have seen me in the promo video🙃). While I was abroad for the first half of this academic year, I was even part of the PR Committee as a remote member.
Most surprisingly, there is also a life outside of Stress and studying. In my free time I like to play basketball from time to time, and I go running a bit more consistently, as I have been training for a few half marathons. My Wednesday evenings I spend in the Vluchte, together with my dispuut (fraternity) MSCS.

Secretary: Sebastiaan de Brouwer
Hi everyone! I’m Sebastiaan and next academic year I will serve our wonderful association as secretary. I’m 21 years old and I grew up in Hilversum, near Amsterdam. Two years ago, I started my bachelor Industrial Engineering and Management in Enschede. I was not the first one in my family, as both my father and sister have studied IEM here. So, apparently it runs in the family. Nevertheless, I was also attracted by the beautiful campus surrounded by its green environment and the present sport associations.
My activism at Stress started in my first year in which I joined the SportCie. One of the events we organized I enjoyed the most was the golf clinic. After attending this event, I started taking golf lessons with the result of now having my golf license. This year, I’m part of the KIDS committee, having the beautiful chance to create an unforgettable experience for the new freshmen!
Beside my activism at Stress, I also enjoy playing hockey in Heeren 6 at DHC. Although we may not be the best “performing” team, we are however the most “gezellig” hockey team present at DHC.
I really look forward to the year ahead and meeting you all!

Treasurer: Gershom van der Sluis
I’m Gershom, and next year I’ll be the treasurer of the 52nd board of Stress. I’m already quite old at 27, but that doesn’t mean I'm less energetic. Currently I’m working as a Business Controller at Die Grenze, leading the F&C (Finance and Control) team. So, bookkeeping has become second nature to me. Next year I’ll likely still be working, so I may not be as present as my fellow board members.
I became active at Stress during my first year of IBA, by joining the FoodCie. Then the year after I became chairman of KIDS and became the treasurer of the PilsCie. And the years after I stayed active in those committees. I was also Summer Sounds treasurer in the year 2024.
If you do see me at events or Friday afternoon drinks, please come have a beer or soda with me. I’m super excited to get to meet you all!

Internal and PR: Camiel de Jager
Hello everyone! My name is Camiel de Jager, and I will serve as Commissioner of Internal Affairs and PR of the 52nd candidate board of our lovely association. I'm twenty years old and was raised in Dokkum, a city in the north of Frisia. I study Industrial Engineering and Management and will start writing my thesis in September. In the next year I hope to help our active members in growing in their capabilities and create opportunities for meeting new people and making friends.
I became active in my first year in the Freshman committee, but after having to drop out (Calculus) I joined the Stress Congress committee and together with Jurre I was responsible for the external affairs and learnt a lot about how to work in a team with some higher stakes. After which I helped organize the symposium in honour of prof. Dr. Jan Kreiken. Where in his honour we created a new study square outside of the Stress Room (which I hope you have already studied on!). In addition, I joined the PilsCie to help organise drinks in the MBasement and I am a bartender and ERO myself.
I am excited to meet you all to play some games in the Stress room or drink a beer in the MBasement! And if you want to help out next year, be sure to approach me :) (or if you just simply would like to have a chat!)

External Affairs: Sarah
My name is Sarah and I am the candidate for external affairs of the 52nd board of Stress. I was born in Zimbabwe and was raised between 5 different African countries, with all different cultures, schools and ways of life. The main thing that has stayed consistent throughout is the chaos and adventure.
I started the Kick-In in the Toeter do-group with Camiel and Jurre. My first committee at Stress was the freshmen committee again with Camiel and one other Toeter kiddo, after this hilarious committee I joined KIDS as I wanted a bit more responsibility at Stress. Alongside KIDS I did the books committee. In my third year I wanted to graduate early, so I joined the Study Tour Committee. I then take my thesis and minor at the same time and graduate in March rather than in July.
For high school I went to boarding school in Zimbabwe which I loved more than anything. Most of my stories from school were completely normal to me and my friends, but I've learnt that these are slightly unhinged to people in the Netherlands. So, if you ever want stories involving midnight missions, dorm drama and bizarre school traditions, I have an unlimited supply. Before I started IEM, I thought mathematics was the most fun thing in school, so I tried a year of Applied Mathematics and let's just say it wasn't for me.
I grew up with 3 brothers who basically turned my childhood into a full-time adventure. I’ve always been ridiculously protective over them. When my youngest brother was born, I genuinely believed he was my baby and proudly helped my mom change his diapers like I was employed there. Growing up with them taught me how much I care about looking after people, creating a good environment, and making sure everyone feels included and supported.

Commissioner of Educational Affairs: Siem Jacobs
Hi all :) I’m Siem, and at 25 years old I am surprisingly only the second oldest of the candidate board. The house I was born in and still live in today is only a meagre 20 minutes of biking away, in Hengelo. My educational background is a bit unique; being kicked out of 2 primary schools and having plenty of experience with gap years, it’s maybe a bit surprising that I ended up as a Candidate for Education…
I’ve been an active student ever since 2021, when I originally started studying Applied Physics, where I was the proud chair of the best first-year committee Arago has ever seen. (I also took 600 pictures at one activity once and then promptly dropped out of the photography committee, but we don’t talk about that). After some study-choice reconsideration, I ended up starting IBA in 2023 and quickly joined the Educational committee and the External Affairs committee, dropping the EAC at some point in my first year, and staying loyal to the Educational committee until this very day.
This loyalty I aim to continue to express in becoming the Commissioner of Education, where my non-traditional background will serve as a foundation to take a kind-but-critical approach to our lovely studies, and foster an environment where student voices are not just heard but listened to.
